Word Gems

exploring self-realization, sacred personhood, and full humanity

Part II: If an angel sent from God were to bear tidings of a single, most important precept, what would be communicated? Touched By An Angel, in its many episodes, suggests that what's most vital to know is 'God loves you' – certainly this is a true statement, but is there something else, even more fundamental, which might effect real change?

The Gospel Of John offers a primary message, to the effect, “God loves you.”

In one of the most famous and beloved verses of the New Testament, we find the assertion,

For God so loved the world … [further] God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16, 17 (NIV)

The fourth gospel want us us to know that God sent a heavenly being to the Earth as expression of "God loves you."

The Gospel Of Thomas, however, presents a somewhat different major thesis; in its own words, it proclaims: “You are part of God, you and God are one.”

Jesus said: If people ask you: 'Where have you come from?' tell them: 'We have come from the Light, from the place where the Light is produced.’

Jesus said... The kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you become acquainted with yourselves, then you will be recognized [by yourselves that you are of God]. And you will understand that it is you who are children of the living father. But if you do not become acquainted with yourselves, then you are in poverty.

He said to them: He who has ears, let him hear! There is light within a man of light, and he lights the whole world.

Jesus said, If they say to you, 'Where have you come from?' say to them, 'We have come from the Light, from the place where the Light is produced’ … If they say to you, 'Who or what are you?' say, 'We are its children, the offspring [of Light], we are chosen [to manifest] the living Progenitor.’

The Gospel Of Thomas does not emphasize “God loves you” but, rather, goes a step further, “you are one with God, you are 'sparks' of God's Light.”

all this is very important

You’ll want to review the entire discussion in the “Thomas and John” writing. If you’re unfamiliar with this material, be prepared to be disturbed.

The Gospel Of John has a reputation as “the spiritual gospel.” I studied it for years but, only in recent times, did I learn of its true character. With comparisons to the Nag Hammadi documents, of which the Gospel Of Thomas is most stellar, and by viewing John in relation to Mathew, Mark, and Luke, an entirely different perspective comes into view.

Strangely, and even shockingly, we find that John, in fact, is a political hit-piece written to smear Thomas and the Thomas-Christians. One needs to invest some time reviewing all of the relevant information. See the article.

Why the disparity? Shouldn’t “God loves you” be the highest benediction? Let’s explore this carefully, as there’s much hidden truth here about the nature of reality.

the love that can quickly turn to hate

Erin has painted on a rock that she's fallen in love with Andrew, who happens to be a divine messenger.

“Erin loves Andrew”, episode 7, season 4, “Touched By An Angel”

Erin: “You don’t like me?!”

Andrew: "Erin, there's someone out there who will love you."

Erin. "But not you, right?"

Andrew: “You don’t understand.”

Erin: “Oh, I understand – and I want you to leave now!”

'God loves you' is the message of 200+ 'Touched By An Angel' episodes. What could possibly be wrong with this?

There’s nothing wrong at all with “God loves you”; it’s just that, it’s not enough. This affirmation, alone, will not draw from us the inner riches of the soul.

But, we’re not really satisfied with this answer. We feel comforted to know that God loves us. Why shouldn’t this be a good thing?

It is a good thing, and we’ll cherish this sentiment for unending times to come. I think the story of Erin and Andrew hints at the solution.

Erin is very much drawn to Andrew, wants to be with Andrew, loves Andrew - and yet, fifteen seconds later she feel hatred for him.

In Part I of this series we spoke of the various episodes of “Touched By An Angel.” Each story line offered a hurting human being the solace of “God loves you”; and, according to the narrative, lives were changed as a result. But then we looked at other evidence which suggests that this “cinematic healing” might be more poetic license than reality.

As we reviewed the evidence of Part I, we were hard pressed to find even one example of any soul being substantially rejuvenated, on a permanent basis, simply by meeting an angelic being bearing the news, “God loves you.”

What is missing? The answer here, because it impinges upon the counter-intuitive, is antithetical to the world’s definitions of love and spirituality, will require a fair amount of explanation. I’ll offer a short summary, but, to do this justice, one needs to study several related writings.

Kairissi and Elenchus discuss how lovers' perceptions of existential beauty lead them to ultimate intimacy and oneness

Touching foreheads, entering a condition of "no you and no me," a quality of sacred silence, the Dazzling Darkness, with no space or separation, an Omega-Point intimacy

The Mystical Experience: 'silence your ego and your power will rise'

Part I, Existential Beauty: Noting a sunrise as messenger of a new day is not the same as discerning the dawn as dreamily enchanting. The sublime awareness allowing for such is untainted by utilitarian concern.

Part II, Existential Beauty: Consonance with the whole: “What is good is in consonance with creation as a whole and therefore also with the world of men. Whenever we see the Good and the True in perfect accord, the Beautiful stands revealed.”

We feel uplifted at the singing note of a bird, a blossoming rose, and with a woman’s grace and loveliness. But can any of these bring about a transformation of heart and mind? Is her mystical allure a basis for authentic love and marriage?

Over the years on WG, we have referred to Twin Soul love as founded upon “soul energies.” However, as Tesla asserted, to know the universe, one must think in terms of “energy, frequency, and vibration.” As such we may be able to further clarify Twins’ affinity as oscillating waves of Consciousness.

plus some extra notes on the Dazzling Darkness in:

Aloneness 1-Minute Essay

Allow me to offer very brief encapsulation:

Krishnamurti taught us of the mystical perception of “no you and no me.” This is an elevated level of consciousness, in that it eliminates egoic “distance.” This distance is a natural result of love, which, by its very nature, requires a lover and a beloved, that is, a subject and an object. With these two, there is always distance; unity and oneness cannot be complete as there is psychological “distance” causing a kind of separation. In this separation, this distance, there is room for doubt, fear of loss, for all manner of misinterpretation.

This is what caused Erin to stumble. Love couldn’t bridge the egoic distance.

And even when people are offered God’s love, they quickly fall victim to the same “distance.” Therein, they encounter various fears, doubts, and apprehensions of “I’ll never find happiness with this.”

The only permanent remedy is the highest level of consciousness, which is not love, but oneness. See the “levels of consciousness” writing.

The Gospel Of Thomas is about cosmic oneness with the Divine. John's pleasant "God loves you" can't really take us to where we need to go.

PART 1

Editor's last word:

Let’s translate all this to address authentic love and marriage of Twin Souls.

Telling a mate “I love you” will never go out of style. But, as we contemplate saying these words, do you feel the subtle “distance”? Quiet your mind and heart, and you will feel it. Somehow it seems not enough.

But now entertain this: say to each other, “You are part of me, you are one with my heart and soul - I am you!

This is rather more than “I love you”, wouldn’t you say. And if you can actually feel this message, notice too, there is no distance, no room for any doubt or fear.
