like a tree growing by a river - leaves always green, never failing to bear fruit

The enlightened person is not immune to the sufferings of this world. And yet, in the midst of unease, there is a sense of needing nothing, a larger perception of abundance and plenitude, a self-sufficiency, a quiet confidence.

One who has discovered the “made in the image” inner riches is ever nourished by Source. This hidden wellspring, an unseen reservoir of refreshment, allows the godly woman or man to prosper, or make the best of any situation, in the difficult classroom that is planet Earth.

Sometimes alone, with a preference for fellowship, but never lonely, and never afraid of death.

narrow gate, without fellowship

In his writings, Andrew Jackson Davis warns of the "narrow gate" that leads to life; few be that enter it. Those who live courageously by following the truth wherever it leads, as Davis points out, “will walk a pathway without fellowship of thy earthly brethren.”

The cults have long employed the weapon of excommunication, shunning, and ostracization - a forced separation from friends, workmates, and family - toward anyone who disagrees with the hive mentality.

This putting away occurs not just in religion but in dysfunctional families, corporations, academia, politics, and other power-seeking groups. They’re afraid of contrary opinion which might disembowel and expose shallow teachings. And so they’ll persecute you for spreading "misinformation".

And you, as a truth seeker, will be censored and required to make your way through this world “without fellowship of thy earthly brethren.” But, be assured, a day of reckoning is but one missed heartbeat away.

visiting with a psychic-medium

Though I rarely visit with psychic mediums anymore, recently I decided to do so. Much of the information was ordinary, but there was one item of note. Allow me to paraphrase the essence:

“You are living your life pursuing the truth. Most people are afraid of this and do not like your non-traditional views. While you would prefer to be accepted and popular, the life you have chosen can be lonely at times. In this world the truth is not welcomed. Right now, especially, you must draw upon an inner strength to walk alone as you’ll receive little encouragement from others.”

It occurred to me that this message was not just for me but for anyone who desires to find out what’s real. There’ll be little support from the world, one must be prepared to walk alone; invariably, one will be denied, as Jackson Davis stated, “the fellowship of thy brethren.”

like a tree growing by a river: the hidden source of strength and refreshment

And I thought of the old scriptures, Jeremiah 17:8 and Psalms 1:3, about how the godly person is like a tree planted by a river. The roots of the tree are constantly nourished by the nearby water source.

Jesus' message was similar to the woman at the well in John 5 -- his hidden artesian spring.

This is how all of us are to live - today and a million years from now.

Once we tap into the living energies of Source, sequestered within the deeper person, we will face life with a new confidence we didn’t know we had – allowing us to function and thrive in a world that will not applaud one who thinks for him- or herself.
